Archive for the tag 'web2expo europe'

I made the mistake of selecting tags that are actually a little too long to be useful on Twitter…

Officially, we printed in our program guide that we will be using “web2expoeu” and “web2expoeu08″

For some reason this made sense at the time.

Then I got a suggestion from one our blog partners that we should use “w2eb“… thanks Arne

I’d been so focused on trying to make everyone understand that Web 2.0 Expo Europe was an event for ALL Europeans (and beyond) that I neglected to consider B for Berlin.

So please feel free to use any of the following tags for any social network:

web2expoeu

web2expoeu08

w2eb

Thanks!

Dear Europe…

This is a letter to our Web 2.0 Expo Europe community.

We are extremely excited to be returning to Berlin for the second year. This year we renamed our conference Web 2.0 Expo Europe to emphasize our efforts to create a robust, content-strong, and community-oriented pan-European event.

Led by blog mavens Suw Charman, Nicole Simon, and Stephanie Booth we launched a bloggers’ outreach initiative. And I want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU to these ladies and the 80 bloggers, spanning across the European continent and languages, who we’ve got on board supporting Web 2.0 Expo Europe. There is much news on the horizon…

For the bloggers in our program we’re putting together a special roundtable discussion with Tim O’Reilly and conference co-chairs Jennifer Pahlka and Brady Forrest – a forum for Q&A and idea-sharing. We’ll also be coordinating more speaker interviews for you all to share with your readers.

We’ve officially launched Crowdvine, the social network for Web 2.0 Expo Europe. Check it out, check it out. Join, network, ask questions, post job requests, find friends, mingle online… and take advantage by meeting the folks you’ll be seeing next month in Berlin!

Our friends at Berlin Partners has launched Berlin Web Week – a way to embrace all the community events happening during and around Web 2.0 Expo Europe. Click here to see what events are listed. Submit your own events here!

Barcamp Berlin3 is being held the weekend before Expo (18th & 19th). 945 members on the wiki and exploding! They are doing such an amazing job – see their blog. And yes, I am taking avid notes on their community-building efforts.

So on a personal note, I’m relatively new to the blogosphere and my writing has been more event-reactive then pro-active to date. So I want to apologize to you dear community that this blog has been so New York focused in the past few months.

The O’Reilly Media and TechWeb teams that put together the inaugural Web 2.0 Expo New York show is the same that is pulling together Europe, and we’ve all been working really long hours planning, prepping and launching – for both shows simultaneously.

Will you accept no excuses?

Well, fear not. This letter is a precursor to great things to come. In a few short days I’ll be flying out to Berlin to be community ground-support leading up to the October 21-23 event. I want to hear your thoughts and take action based on your recommendations. The team here wants to engage with you… as what we’re building is FOR YOU.

Contact any one of us for questions.

Leave your comments on this blog.

Follow us on Twitter (@w2e_europe08) to get event updates, and to DM us any thoughts.

Dear Europe. Thank you for your patience. I look forward to the weeks ahead!
