Look out for these presenters on Tuesday, October 21st at Startup Ignite.

Held in the BCC main hall, 17:15 - 18:00.

This event is open to all Expo Hall and Conference pass holders.

aka-aki evolved from the founders diploma project at the University of the Arts Berlin. The aka-aki approach is to bring about the functions we know from internet communities into real life, where they’re much more useful than in the virtual space. Because real life does not just take place in front of a computer, it’s happening in the streets, on trains, at parties, in universities and in clubs. So aka-aki decided to enhance reality with functions we know from virtuality. That’s not science fiction. At Startup Ignite the company will give an exclusive preview of the aka-aki iPhone app that is to be launched within the next weeks.

Amazee is a more evolved social networking site designed to empower individuals and small groups to launch global initiatives. Amazee was built to channel activism and provides powerful tools to help project initiators organize, collaborate on, promote, and fund projects of any size with participants from anywhere around the world.

plista is a user-centric personalization and recommendation network that works across multiple websites. It allows enhancing online experience by recommending more relevant content, products and advertising in real-time. It works as a widget, per API integration or browser plug-in where no site cooperation is needed. plista delivers on-site as well as cross-site recommendations. It allows the publishers to monetize websites, promote items and target customers individually.

SoundCloud is a brand new audio platform that makes is simple for people to manage and collaborate on their music online. Music professionals use it daily to receive, send & distribute their tracks. Some call it email for music, some call it flickr for audio others just call it kick-ass.

txtr.com is a platform facilitating connected reading it lets you follow what your friends read, enables you to send and receive interesting texts, and allows mobile access to your text collections. This might be your own private pile of books and news to read on a plane, or the documents your team has been working on and that you may need to access on the go. Wizpac Ltd., the company behind txtr, was founded in early 2008 by a group of serial entrepreneurs and book enthusiasts, including Andreas Steinhauser and Frank Rieger, who developed what is now Nokia Maps.

Our advisory board member, community enthusiast and blogger extrodinaire Nicole Simon has done a phenomenal job of pulling together Berlin Web Week’s Girl Geek Dinner - which happens to be the kick-off networking event for Web 2.0 Expo Europe :)

The international guest list is comprised of representatives from Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

And the secret about Girl Geek Dinners (globally) is that men can only come as a guest of a female attendee. But the smart men find a way to come, right? But at 55% female, we’re still dominating our own event. Whew :)

Check out this amazing guest list:

Many thanks Nicole. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Thanks everyone for submitting to our Startup Ignite show!! It was a really tough decision but we’ve made our selections for final presenters.

Congratulations to aka-aki, SoundCloud, Amazee and iDesktop.tv!!

We have some runner ups and we’ll announce which of two of these four startups will get added to our show in the next 24 hours - Goojet, plista, Wizpac, Yoolink Pro.

Startup Ignite will take place in the BCC main hall on Tuesday, October 21st, from 17:15 - 18:00.

This will take place immediately after our keynotes so doors will open for general seating at 15:45.

(and I only missed my Wednesday announcement promise by an hour… but that really depends on what time zone you’re in…)

With the launch of our new on-site Community Lounge we’ve decided to cancel the Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions we normally hold after hours.

So if you were interested in scheduling a BoF - please take a look at our community meeting space, with conference table seating for up to 30 people.

And you can hold your meeting at the BCC during Web 2.0 Expo Europe. It’s an open space for all registered attendees. Take a look and and leave a comment here for a meeting time.

If you are going to a conference which is all about the future of the internet, you want to arrive in style. Or at least, I want to. So, at the end of September I started thinking about the best way to get to Berlin. Naturally, it had to be innovative. But innovation is not easy as most of the forms of transport have been around for ages. So how can you be innovative in that situation? That was the question that triggered travel 2.0.

After looking around for a suitable vehicle, Ford was the one to step up to the idea. Travel 2.0 will center around a Ford S-Max 2.5 Turbo. A car loaded with gadgets, which fits the concept perfectly. But we have to do more than that. This means that we will be mounting a camera in the Ford for the trip to Berlin and that will be broadcasting live through Dutch Cowboys. But just allowing you to watch is not enough. That is why you can call in to ask us all about the car, but also on our view of the future of marketing and the internet. A completely interactive journey. And of course, I will not be alone. Erno Hannink will also be riding with me, but we are having two more open seats in the S-Max. And these two seats will be offered to the winners of the two tickets of the Web 2.0 Expo that are being raffled off by Dutch Cowboys. So, you are not just getting tickets, you are also getting a free ride!

Of course the journey to Berlin is not just about us and the Ford S-Max. It really is all about others. If you are a startup, if you have a brilliant idea, or you have something else you want to pitch, you are welcome to our Pitch-Stops. The first Pitch-Stop will be held in Arnhem. During the Pitch-Stops you can get into the backseat of the S-Max to pitch your company or idea for five minutes. You pitch will be broadcasted live on Dutch Cowboys as well. And that means that you are having a huge podium for your idea. If you cannot make Arnhem, that is no problem at all. We are in Berlin all week at the Web 2.0 Expo and everyone who has a good pitch can get into the backseat of the S-Max which will be parked next to the entrance of the Expo. Let us know and before you know it the world will be streaming at your feet.

Wow, its one week now till we will see you guys in Berlin. It is going to be a week full of networking, partying and last but not least doing weird geek stuff. Some of you might not be registered by now, so…

… how about a guaranteed seat at BarCamp Berlin 3 and a complimentary pass to Web 2.0 Expo Europe?

Here are the rules:

1. Read this entry to its end
2. Solve the riddle ;-)
3. Post your answer as a comment
4. The first to solve has guaranteed entry to BarCamp Berlin 3 and a free complimentary code to Web 2.0 Expo Europe.
5. People already registered are not allowed to participate

Do you know about “a Google”? A Google is a searchterm entered at Google which gives back only one site as result! Example: “coffee karma friedrichshain jones oskar fribourg jagger kreativitt voyager”

You guys have to find one for us but three keywords have to be in it: “Web20Expo” “Barcamp” and “Berlin”

The first one to enter a solution here wins, the first to post a solution at the BarCamp Berlin Blog wins too!

Have fun!

Thanks everyone who came out to our drinkup last evening. It was much fun, and so nice to meet the Web/blogging community that resides in Berlin (and those who came in from outside to play as well!)

There seems to be a really great buzz around Web 2.0 Expo Europe this year … and with just over a week left until showtime, it’s exciting to know that our community is looking forward to the sessions, events and programs we’ll be launching.

As conference organizers feedback is really important to us - it helps us understand what we did right, wrong and could do better - to make sure that every one of our guests walk away with a great experience.

So one thing I thought worth calling out was the fact that YES, we know the food was horrible last year - or in some opinions, non-existant. The venue was far, the coffee not great… OK. We know. We heard you (over and over and over again…)

We’ve got a sense of humor, we can take it :)

But know this:

We’ve upped the catering for this event - there WILL be food, there WILL be coffee..

<– and it won’t look like this

Another thing to note is that we’ve CHANGED VENUES!

In just over a week, Web 2.0 Expo Europe will take place at the Berliner Congress Center (BCC), a beautiful and cultural venue smack in the center of Berlin - Alexanderplatz 11.

(Keynote Room and Main Hall)

The BCC is a notable national monument building, built in 1964 and renovated in 2002.
