Think you’ve got  your company’s elevator pitch nailed down to perfection? Well, let the experts be the judge!

Pitch Web 2.0 Summit your company via Twitter using hashtag #w2sON and be one of eight lucky startups selected to join the Innovators Luncheon, held on-site at the Palace Hotel, a kick-off to Day 1 of this year’s conference.

The Innovators Luncheon is an opportunity for early stage creative startups to present their elevator pitch in person to a panel of established and respected Venture Capitalists; and a gathering of industry decision makers that is comprised of Web 2.0 Summit attendees.

We’re looking for consumer-oriented web or mobile startups with a dedication to peer-to-peer communication, building online communities and if the company proves successful, will likely have a positive social impact.

Startups should be for-profit, and pitches can be up to five minutes. No demos, but interactive media will be allowed.

How To Submit:

Using Twitter hashtag #w2sON pitch us your company for consideration! We’re happy to get links to blog posts or videos about your startup. Tell us why you should be selected to join this very special community lunch, hosted by Omidyar Network and held on-site at Web 2.0 Summit.

Submissions deadline: 9am ET on Tuesday, Nov. 9

And be sure to join the industry conversation on the Points of Control interactive map. If you don’t see your company listed, add it!

  • How WebSockets work
  • How Web Sockets can provide a dramatic reduction in latency and network throughput (think 1000:1)
  • How you can create real-world, real-time apps that scale using the WebSocket API
  • What techniques and technologies you can use to build HTML5 web applications

So whether you know a little, or lot, or nothing at all about it – Peter is the man who can help guide you through this topic. Walk away HTML5times smarter!

The Web 2.0 Expo and its free, community-driven unconference Web2Open is thrilled to partner with the organizers of Startup Weekend to present the winning company (selected this Sunday, May 2) with a main stage spot in Launch Pad.

Although Startup Weekend seems to be sold out (congrats gents!!), you can still learn some important lessons from Bay Area organizers on Tuesday, May 4 @ 10:05am in their session - Business Plans Are Dead. Presented by Marc NagerFranck Nouyrigat , Directors at StartupWeekend.org

What is Startup Weekend?

Startup Weekend recruits a highly motivated group of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more to a 54 hour event that builds communities, companies and projects.

Founded in 2007 by Andrew Hyde, the weekend is a concept of a conference focusing on learning by creating. It is known for its quick decisions, ‘out of the box’ thinking (oh no, the buzzwords are attacking!), unique facilitation technique and letting the founders show what they can do. The program has already met with success in Boulder, Toronto, New York, Hamburg, Houston, West Lafayette, bay area, DC and more.

The participants that attend a Startup Weekend decide what they want to tackle over the weekend and come out at the end with several developed companies or projects. Attendees are responsible for bringing the same desire and passion to the project and walk out of the room with the task at hand, in a short 54 hours. Sound intense? It is.

This year, the ladies take the lead at Web2Open

Web 2.0 Expo’s yearly on-site unconference is FREE to support extended members of the Web 2.0 community. We do our best to uphold the ethos of an unconference with an open on-site grid for session sign ups, but through the years we started to pre-program a handful of sessions to get the conversation off the ground immediately around topics we think will be useful and relevant to Web2Open participants.

This year the focus at Web2Open will be on practical discussions and insightful tutorials, so that when you walk away from the session, you’ll have tips, tools, and tactics that you can apply immediately to your business or project.

And this year, we’ve got some fine ladies taking the spotlight!
