For the last several months I’ve been head deep in the realm of social media. Searching, testing, trying and implementing various Web 2.0 tools to help me and my teams be better communicators with all of you.

All along the way I’ve been aided by the collective intelligence of fellow Web 2.0′ers who have helped me become smarter every day. So to give back some of that knowledge I’ll share where I can answers to some questions on actual usage that I get a lot.

    Hi Janetti,

    Nice topic :)

    We at Tiara Hotels & Resorts have both, although we’ve started with a group page instead of a fan page.

    The main difference for me is that in one side you will “just” be a group member, and in the other everyone will see that you “became a FAN” of something, in our case, of our brand and hotels. It’s more appealing, I guess.

    I rather be fan of, for example, my soccer team, coca-cola, body-board or wathever, rather than be part of a specific group for each and one of these things.

    Hi all. Why I say fan pages win is because of how I use it as a conference organizer.

    There is definitely a different type of interactivity and ‘vibe’ that groups have over fan pages. But at the end of the day, if your group plans to grow larger than 1,000 people then being able to add applications and update to 1,000+ makes it worth it to start with fan pages.

    There is no way to migrate group members automatically to a fan page so you can lose some folks along the way later on.
