UPDATE: Going Solo has been canceled. Please read here for details.

Ive had the recent pleasure of e-meeting Stephanie Booth, web consultant and avid blogger, based in Lausanne, Switzerland. She established one of the first French language blogs in 2000 and today Climb to the Stars has become one of the most popular Swiss blogs.
Stephanie is putting together her second Going Solo event – a one-day educational conference for freelancers and small business owners of the internet industry and beyond. It will cover topics such as setting rates, negotiating contracts, finding clients, balancing work and life, and being productive without getting all stressed out.
Wait, is that possible?! Lady, you are promising a lot!
We all want to work hard or well (at least Id like to think) but sometimes the stresses of the everyday can make us inefficient managers of our time, personal lives and emotions (see my recent tweet as evidence). In this day and age where 9-5 hours is no longer the norm I applaud Stephanie for creating an event that feeds entrepreneurial spirits while focusing on the challenges of finding a work-life balance.
I also loved her blog post: Six Things to Make Blogging About Going Solo Leeds Easier
Promoting an event like Going Solo is a huge amount of work often more than what youd imagine (and more than what I imagined initially). Thats why everything the community does to help counts.
Im a blogger and a busy person, and so I know how easy it is to want to do something but not actually get around to doing it. Or how easy it is to think that what I can do wont really make a difference.
Shes totally right. Ive been meaning to write about Going Solo for weeks now. Well, Ive actually been meaning to do A LOT of things for weeks now. But Stephanies post is a reminder that when we do get around to things, we get community karma points, that one day, come back around when we need help.
And I think getting help (and being open to it) is part of the secret to finding a work-life balance.
So Stephanie, my apologies for getting around to this so late, but congratulations on pulling together an event that will be great. Conference organizers unite!
