Okay it’s a gorgeous sunny day here in Oakland, CA but other than a quick morning walk with my daughter, today will be a decidedly inside-in-front-of-the-computer sort of day, as the team tries desperately to prepare for next week. And yes, just like the cliche, rather than getting out and waving sunshiney hellos to my flesh-and-blood neighbors, I’m spending a fair chunk of today making new online friends through CrowdVine, the Web 2.0 Expo social network. And you should be too.
I hope you do create at CrowdVine account soon, not just so you can be the most popular person on yet another network, but because a bunch of other stuff you’ll also want to do when you get to the event happens in CrowdVine. This network plaftorm focuses less on who you already know, and more on whom you would like to meet when you are at the event. Your personal conference schedule is also there, and we’ll be harassing you endlessly to evaluate every session you attend, and guess where the evaluation page is… in CrowdVine. For those of you wanting to take it a little easy on the networking front, there are privacy and notification settings to keep the email load down, but still give you access to your scheduler and session ratings.
We’re also going to provide easy access to your Want-to-Meet network, your schedule, and the backchannel in-session chat through a nifty browser extension we’re testing as I write this. To use all the functions of this cool little overlay, you’ll need to have a CrowdVine account.
As if you needed another reason, we’re going to be giving away copies of Jonathan Zittrain’s new book The Future of the Internet and How to Stop It next week, and we’ll be choosing who gets the copies by who’s contributed in CrowdVine. That’s practically a bribe, not that you needed one.
Sign up here. There will be sunshine other days.
